Even this change it doesn't work with ethernet Shield v1.1 and UNO.
What could be worng?

@Brett England

This does indeed work flawlessly!

The library has been quite updated in the meanwhile and the pin redefinition has changed, what you need to take a look at is this:

#define SELECT_BIT 0 // 0 = B0 = pin 8, 2 = B2 = pin 10

which obviously needs to be changed to:

#define SELECT_BIT 2 // 0 = B0 = pin 8, 2 = B2 = pin 10

Aint google wonderful, I was in the process of getting an ethernet shield for my Arduino Uno and was lured in by a cheap version on trademe, the exact version noted above, searching on google brought me to your site, your article has just changed my mind.
Thanks for the info

Hello tom,
your problems ended! ;-) I started a project with the goal of turn the Ethernet examples found on Arduino's IDE compatbile with ENC28J60, so I'm rewriting all the socket layer, based on nuelectronics etherShield Library.

For now, TCP server connections work (with some limitations) and the web server example is working fine.

If do you want to know more, please see:

Hi, I am using a ethershield with W5100, but when I put a LM35 on the analog input A0 it does not read a correct value. When I use the analog input 2 it can read normaly. I tested without a ethershield and it works fine also.
What am I doing wrong ?
Is the analog input A0 and A1 used by the ethershield to comunicate with the arduino board ?

The JEENODE EtherCard library with a minor modification works, this is nicely abstract so your .PDE looks sane again. The minor mod is in the file enc28j60.cpp file you need to change the SPI control pin from 8 to 10.

//AT: Use pin 10 for nuelectronics.com compatible ethershield.
//AT: Use pin 8 for jeenode ethercard
#define ENC28J60_CONTROL_CS 10

Hi , interesting article, but I'm not sure what you mean by
>As you can see this example involves a lot of low level configuration.
I see six lines and they seem like reasonable settings to be able to customise.

Apart from that, does the ENC28j60 based shield seem to be OK ?.

There is an updated ethernet library: http://blog.thiseldo.co.uk/?p=329

It's much better than the stock one. Still not 100% but it works
